Ron Hunter is the owner and driver for HPM. Ron got his start in racing in 1980 at Stateline Speedway (then Northwest Speedway) and Spokane Fairgrounds Raceway working anywhere he could while his step dad pitted for several drivers. In the 30 years since, Ron has done everything from take tickets, to flagging, to work on the safety crews.

In 1984, at the age of 13, Ron started racing various cars, using fake names so he could race underage. After several years away from the drivers seat, Ron made a triumphant return to driving full time in 2009, winning 7 features, 7 heat races and 8 trophy dashes in the Roadrunner division and also winning a main event and several heat races in the Hobby Car division.

2009 also saw the birth of Hunter Performance Motorsports driver and sponsor cards. Building off of a concept that we have used for our own sponsors, we have started designing and selling these unique, high quality cards/photos for drivers across the Northwest.

2010 was a successful season of racing marred by the death of Ron's mentor, best man and father figure Mel Auckerman. With Mel watching over him Ron won the Mid-Season Championship and drove to a second place finish in the final standings. At the end of the year Ron was awarded the Stateline Speedway Citizenship Award, a perpetual award given to someone who promotes racing and the racing community in a positive light and promotes family values along with it.

2011 started off much the same way that 2010 did, with the loss of someone very dear to Ron, his grandfather Bob. Along with Mel, Bob helped guide Ron and lead him to be the person he is today.

Ron drove the 2011 in memory of Bob "Ace" Lewis and Mel Auckerman. They are missed every day.

2017 saw Ron jump in cars owned by Greg Thomas. Driving the Thomas Racing "Creamcicle", they won the 2018 Track Championship at The Spokane County Super Oval.

2018 started off with Ron on the flagstand at Stateline Speedway but 4 races in found him back behind the wheel of the #69 Thomas Racing Mustang. Though too far behind to realistically win a title, on is setting a top 3 finish as his goal!
